Circle of Life was on exibition from Januari 8 to Februari 1 in Utrecht The Netherland, as part of the iLightU festival!
Circle of Life is a ring shaped light sculpture, inspired by the Moebiusring. It is the embodiment of the reciprocal interaction of life, as the City is a representation of social interactions. The three sides of the ring are part of a continuous surface because the structure of the moebius, making a 3 dimensional shape out of 1 continuous surface. A circle in a circle, mimicking life as a continuous movement, reciprocal and circular in nature.
The moebiusring’s play of light is influenced by pedestrians in their use of the urban space, and marks a moment of crossing. The circular gate around the pedestrian bridge is a physical symbol of social and urban interaction and an urban manifestation of the ‘rite the passage’.
Circle of Life Utrecht is a remake of Circle of Life Amsterdam, and have a lightweight Aluminum truss core, making it easy to set up and transport.
