Spacetime
The artwork Spacetime explores technological progress through a reimagined understanding of physics, particularly inspired by general relativity, where gravity is viewed as spacetime curvature. This concept is physically expressed through a tensegrity structure that appears to defy gravity, symbolizing a shift in perception.
Visitor Experience:
Two floating forms—resembling quotation marks or the rho symbol—create a mysterious, gravity-defying illusion enhanced by subtle shifts in color and light as the viewer moves around. The effect is both captivating and thought-provoking, day and night.
Role of Light:
Light plays a symbolic and functional role, illustrating fundamental physics. The glowing structures pulse slowly, with the lower one pulsing more slowly due to its “closer” relationship to mass and time, echoing time dilation effects. A slight Doppler-like color shift also occurs.
Technical Details:
Constructed from heavy-duty aluminum trusses and stabilized with steel wires, the structure is wrapped in nylon ribbon that diffuses light from integrated RGBW LED strips. Weighing about 200 kg, it can be installed on land or water—water being preferred for visual effect and protection.
