Valiant

Concept & Theme

Valiant is inspired by the Amsterdam crosses, but with a twist. The three crosses are created with a tensegrity tower; a structural balance of studs and wires with pressure and tension. The studs are fitted with scrolling texts related to the theme of the light festival. A (structural) balance between new experiences, history and rituals.

Visitor Experience

The tensegrity tower is a captivating spatial tower. With a height of approximately 10 meters its dimensions are monumental and clearly visible from larger distances. Every angle provide a different look and the way it remains upright is a visual mystery. The light is an important aspect of the artwork; the light in the studs make the artwork float and creates an ephemeral presence. The light depicts presence, energy and interaction, like rituals drive experience and meaning.

The Technical Principle

Valiant is a new remix of an existing modular artwork based on tensegrity principles that has been on display. The artwork is winter-and waterproof and comes with structural calculations. The scrolling text are generated on an accompanied computer. Texts are curated, can be made interactive and display relevant information for the festival.
